There’s no question that you’ll want to look your best on your wedding day. But with the rising cost of getting married; lots of brides are choosing to do their own wedding makeup, rather than pay for a professional make-up artist. If you’re considering doing your make up yourself, you might be a little daunted as to how to ensure your look is both bridal ready, and long-lasting. Here are our tips for doing your own wedding make up, to help you get ready on your big day.
1. PREP YOUR SKIN
The secret to good make up? Good skin! Make sure you keep on top of your skincare regime from around six months before your wedding – or longer if you have skin problems or concerns. Taking the time to find the right skincare products and sticking to a regular regime will help ensure your skin is healthy and glowing on your wedding day and will be the perfect base for your wedding make up.
Even if you’re a makeup mogul, don’t leave it till the big day to debut your wedding day look. Keep practicing your look until you have it down to a tee, and once you’ve perfected it write down all the products and brushes you used and how you used them so you’ll not forget in your wedding day panic!
3. DON’T FORGET PRIMER!
Lots of women skip primer in their day to day makeup, but you’ll need it on your wedding day! A layer of primer under your makeup will help to smooth your skin, and give a base for the rest of your makeup – ensuring it stays on throughout the day! BE CHOOSY ABOUT FOUNDATION
Go to the experts to help you find the perfect foundation. You’ll need to find a base that is the right match for your skin type and tone, as well as that will create a natural look. Head to the makeup counters and try lots of different types to find that perfect match.
4. STICK WITH OLD FAVOURITES
If you’ve already got your ‘holy grail’ mascara, or that blusher that gives just the right amount of glow, don’t use your wedding day to try new products. If you have certain products you absolutely know and love, you don’t need to buy something new.
5. SUN PROTECTION FACTOR
If you’re having an outdoor wedding, you’ll need a Sun Protection Factor, but make sure it’s not included in your foundation. SPF can cause a white cast in photos, especially with flash, and can make you look washed out on your wedding photos.
Whether you are doing your own wedding makeup or having it done professionally, skin prep is vital in advance of your special day. With the right skin care regime, you will feel confident, look beautiful and glow on your wedding day.
